In general, there are two types exercise equipment: free weights and machines.

Free weights

They include barbells, dumbbells, and weight plates. They are called as such because there are no attached cables, pulleys, pins, or weight stacks.

A barbell is a long iron bar, the length of which is between four and seven feet long. To perform barbell exercises, you have to hold the barbell with both hands. A dumbbell, on the other hand, is a short barbell; it is typically 10 to 15 inches long. When performing dumbbell exercises, you carry a dumbbell in each hand. Adjustable dumbbells, which have small collars that clip on the ends of the dumbbells to hold the weight plates, are an excellent choice for a home gym setting; they are more affordable and use up less space. Moreover, weight plates are generally made of iron, although home gyms have plastic weight plates. They range from 2.5 lbs to 100 lbs.

Machines

They allow you perform various exercises. There are ones that focus on individual muscles, while there are those that are made up of a multi-station that works the whole body. The latter are often used as home exercise equipment because they are more affordable and use up less space.

Some examples of machines are the leg press machine, hack squat machine, and leg extension machine. The leg press machine allows you to safely lift heavy weights without worrying about slipping or falling. When compared to squats, it does not put as much stress on the lower back and knees. The hack squat machine, on the other hand, is ideal for the development out the outer sweep of the thighs. Finally, the leg extension machine is often used to warm up the knee joints before moving on to squats or leg presses.
